Previously the Minister for Innovation and the Minister for Science in the South Australian State Government, Tom has a deep understanding of the landscape for future science and innovation initiatives. Through his role as the Government Whip, Tom built strong relationships with all Ministers and sitting Members of Parliament and was respected by both sides of politics as straight shooting, direct and honest.
Whilst in his role as Minister for Innovation, Tom met the Innovyz team and supported the valuable work that they do to promote the commercialisation of innovation. Upon stepping out of the Ministry in 2014 and recognising the value and importance of the role that Innovyz was playing in commercialising research, Tom took a more active approach to assist Innovyz in their mission to turn great ideas into great companies. His key strengths include strategy, communication, an understanding of science and technology and the future use of these to effect meaningful economic change. Tom has the innate ability to focus on outcomes, and to evaluate what is important, connecting the key elements of a process to achieve rapid adoption and stakeholder agreement.
