FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can apply?

We are innovation focused and have designed our programs to be flexible. Individuals, researchers, research centres, companies and corporate spinouts are all welcome to apply. It doesn’t matter whether you are an Individual, from a University or Research Centre, the founder of an established company or have an established team. What matters is the idea: If your ideas have global relevance, the potential to transform an industry sector, or even the world, we want to hear from you.

What form of innovation is welcome?

Each program has a specific industry focus: Our current program we have open is for ideas in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Industries - ideas and innovations may include materials, material science, manufacturing methods and technologies, 3D printing and additive manufacturing, material modelling, engineering software, industry 4.0 technologies, soft robotics and more. Some examples of companies in these industries that we have commercialised include Titomic (ASX:TTT), Amaero (ASX:3DA) and K-Tig (ASX:KTG). However, we are always on the lookout for any great ideas. We are looking for ideas with big potential impact. Genuinely worthy projects with large potential benefit to many people, and by consequence, large potential markets. We can accommodate and will consider every form of innovation, from ideas through to inventions, research, products or services.

Do applicants or participants need to pay?

No payment is needed. Innovyz receives equity in companies which partake in, or are created in, Innovyz commercialisation programs. During the application period, the proportion of equity will be determined. Our program is far from one size fits all. Every company and/or innovation is different, and that is why we choose to be flexible in our approach. We negotiate with you to broker a deal that fairly reflects the stage of the idea and the support needed to commercialise successfully. For Universities and Research centres, we establish new companies which can provide royalties through licensing agreement, and/or issue shares. All aspects of the program itself are covered by the program. This includes flights and accommodation, if required, to attend orientation weekend, mentor weeks, monthly project leader meetings and concluding project presentations. For applicants who wish to have a location to operate from, we provide secure coworking placements in Adelaide, with 24/7 access. The program also provides legal contracts and licensing which align to our governance model. Independent legal or accounting advice will remain the responsibility of applicants.

Does the program offer financial support?

Yes. We issue a $10,000 Innovyz Voucher to each selected participant project. This may be used to offset costs including Trademark fees, Patents, Travel, Equipment, Memberships, Recruitment costs, Promotions, Prototyping, Design, Accounting and Legal Expenses.

Innovyz programs are different: We get involved in the operations of the business. We compliment the skills of the founders, assisting them with what they need. We fill the gaps in order to maximise the chance and scale of success for the business. And we achieve this success by surrounding the innovation with the best national and international business leaders. We are partners with our companies. We don't just run an applicant through coaching, take equity, give them money and then wish them luck. We get involved, assisting companies, researchers and/or inventors with what they need to take their idea to the world. Consequently, you will receive over $150, 000 worth of staff assistance over the course of the nine months.

What's in it for Innovyz?

Up to 10 innovations are inducted into each commercialisation program. In exchange, Innovyz receives equity in companies which partake in, or are created in, Innovyz commercialisation programs.

Do participants need to relocate to Adelaide?

Our program is not full-time and doesn’t require relocation to Adelaide. In fact, many of our founders’ still continue in their day jobs. This includes researchers, engineers and senior managers. To enable this, our experienced Innovyz staff do more of the work. Not all great ideas come from people that want to start a full-time business. People that love what they do think of great ideas too.

However, some others do end up working in the businesses full time. This understanding is built into the negotiations from day one but it can change over time. In this way, we complement the idea owner’s strengths, skills and aspirations to help build the best possible team around them and maximise the chance and scale of success for the business. After all, we only succeed if our companies succeed.

What if my idea is relevant to a different industry?

Our current program we have open is for ideas in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing industries; however, we are always on the lookout for any great ideas. Ideas that have global relevance, the potential to transform an industry sector, or even the world. Contact us, and we can discuss further.

What is the application criteria?

Through the applications of various filters and our unique commercial lens, we seek:

  • Innovation that is impactful, relevant to many people, and by consequence, large markets;
  • Founders, researchers or inventors who are coachable, willing to engage people with skillsets outside their own and willing to share equity to attract high calibre people to their team.
While a commercially ready prototype is not a prerequisite at this stage, we require applications that have proven validation for their core premise.

Do I need experience in business?

It doesn’t matter whether you are an Individual, from a University or Research Centre, the founder of an established company or have an established team. What matters is the idea: If your idea has global relevance, the potential to transform an industry sector, or even the world, we want to hear from you. We don’t turn great individuals into great entrepreneurs nor do we seek out great entrepreneurs, and assist them in creating great companies; we turn great ideas into great companies. What matters to us is the idea.

How long is the program?

The initial program is 9 months in length. However, even when it’s over, it’s not over: The Innovyz journey does not end with graduation from our programs. All Innovyz graduates are provided with ongoing assistance and opinion from Innovyz Institute commercialisation staff and mentors. Teams are required to provide annual reports and to invite Innovyz to participate in Annual General Meetings.

What happens in the program?

In the beginning, you will be allocated an interim General Manager who will work with you on a daily basis, towards the establishment of an experienced and capable team.

Each 9-month program is structured as three terms featuring:

  • Structure and fluid activities with Innovyz Institute;

  • Continual iterative refinement of the idea;

  • Necessary team additions;

  • Creation & evolution of the fundamental value proposition and business model;

  • Market analysis & engagement;

  • Industry and strategic partner introductions;

  • Brand, marketing & sales strategies;

  • Creation of websites & communication assets;

  • Presentation training;

  • Investment readiness and visibility of investors.

Over the course of the program, teams receive intensive mentoring by 30 of the best technologists, strategists and business leaders.

Our current Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Program only accepts applications from Australia and New Zealand. However, for most of our programs, anyone from anywhere can apply. You do have to be legally in Australia during key program dates, of course. You do not have to be in Adelaide for the entire nine months. Once accepted, we may be able to assist with legal/immigration issues by leveraging our contacts and network to help. However, we cannot help in advance of acceptance to Innovyz.

Is my information treated as confidential information?

Yes, we treat application data as confidential information. Our application does not ask for your “secret sauce”, and there is no reason you have to disclose this to us if you’re not comfortable doing so. We are interested in the scalability of the idea, not the ins and outs of how the idea works. Its the potential impact of the idea we are concerned about.
